Our Story
Hi there, I am Priya and Caprilla was born out of my decades-long passion for wine. The name 'Caprilla' comes from 'capriolo' - the Italian word for deer that live in our estate: their distinctive antlers are the inspiration behind our logo.
My journey from a wine enthusiast to a WSET qualified wine professional and wine maker was a long but very enjoyable one. During my extensive travels around the famous wine regions of the world, in particular around France and Italy, I have visited a myriad of wine estates and tasted some fantastic wines that were local and lesser-known to the wider world. Along the way, I also met passionate wine producers, merchants and restaurateurs who are now more my friends than business associates.
In 2016, I chose the region of central Tuscany for my own vineyard and wine-making venture. I must confess that I was a bit naïve in assuming that a crash course in viticulture and A1 level basic Italian would make me an expert Italian winemaker! I was humbled to see the love of labour that goes into making every bottle of wine and astounded to see how many factors were beyond our control including the effects of climate change. There were also mountains of regulations to navigate to make the vineyard organic and our business sustainable. All of those efforts and patience have paid off and I am proud of our organic farm, our exclusive produce and our sustainability initiatives.

In Italy, almost every village has its local enoteca – a wine bar. They typically sell the local wines but it is also a place to hang out and taste wines by the glass with some fantastic antipasti to go with. The enotecas are run by people passionate and knowledgeable about wine and they get to know their customers and their wine preferences well enough to open just the right bottle for you as you walk in. It is this concept that I wanted to create at Caprilla: I am passionate to share my knowledge and experience in all aspects of wine from viticulture and winemaking to the art of wine appreciation and enjoyment. Through our guided tasting sessions in London, online as well as from our farm in Tuscany I hope to help you experience and appreciate the wonderful world of wine.
So, please take your time to browse through the services on offer here and I hope we can be of help in some way.
